ADS would like to announce that it now has funding to provide NEW home support services to older people and their carers living in the South East Sydney region.

Following a successful submission in the 2013 Commonwealth HACC Funding Round, ADS is now able to offer regular domestic assistance, one to one social support, and respite care under the newly established South East Sydney Home Support Service (SESHSS).

To be eligible for services people must:

  • Live in the community/home;
  • Live in the South East Sydney Region; City Of Sydney, Eastern Sydney & St George & Sutherland LGA’s.
  • aged 65 years or over and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over; or their carers
  • Have difficulty performing activities of daily living without support

Social support is particularly focused on assisting people to participate in community life through meeting their need for social contact and accompaniment. The service is tailored to meet individual interests and personal goals enabling the service user to achieve positive outcomes and fostering social connectedness and wellbeing.

Respite care offers the opportunity for informal family carers to take a break from their caring role for a few hours a week or fortnight whilst their loved one is being cared for by experience support workers. ADS recognises the important role carers play in the lives of the person/s being cared for and their contribution to the community. This service provides the support needed, and the encouragement, to enable carers to practice self-care and, as a result, maintain optimum health and wellness in their lives.

The SESHSS is a subsidised service, with a small client contribution required, and supported by funding from the Australian Government under the HACC Program.
